Mossbank Youth Centre Website
The youth centre began as an idea from a group of youth attending a Badlands Recreation conference in October, 2001. The town of Mossbank donated the use of the house and April 13, 2002 we opened for business. We have received a fair amount of our funding through Community Initiatives, Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association, Badlands Recreation Association, and of course, the youth centre would not be the success it is without the continual support of the Town of Mossbank, RM 103 and 102, Mossbank Recreation Association, and so many of the community groups and people who have donated money, facility use, supplies, volunteer hours, equipment, and furniture for the youth centre. Of course some of our memorable fundraisers include wakeathons, pancake breakfasts, Easter baskets, yard services, and lots more.
The youth centre has helped sponsor many new projects in the community including the monthly Community Calendar, the Mossbank Tae Kwon do Club, and the Mossbank Youth Leadership project (now the Rosette Theatre and the Mossbank Youth Community Builders). We have held several sport clinics including fencing, cycling, tennis, soccer, boxing, synchronize swimming, laser tag, wrestling, and lacrosse. The youth centre is open twice a week—Wednesdays from 6:30 till 9:30pm and Fridays from 7pm-12am. Of course one of our major projects each year is the Summer Youth Activity Program which hires 3-4 local students and brings daily activities throughout the summer months. We’ve had lizard displays, camp-outs at the library, sleep-overs, buddy nights, dunk tanks, bouncy inflatable tents, sponsored community business challenges, purchase a new net each year for the beach volleyball court, and helped out with the Library’s Summer Reading Program. This program has been an incredible success with approximately 600 youth attending throughout each year and another 500-600 children, youth, and adults attending our summer events—over 5 years that’s over 5500 people!!
The youth centre is opened Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30pm and Fridays from 7pm-12am. Over the summer the youth centre is only open Friday evenings and is open for Grades 6-12.
